Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”- Colossians 3:23-24
One of the most beautiful monologues delivered during season one is from Kevin when he shows Randall’s daughters a painting he had made. He talks about each of us being a part of a greater painting that is life. Even the people we have lost in this life are a part of the painting because their legacy lives on in life by being a part of our lives and shape us to be better people. Kevin says, “So at first I was thinking you know, maybe up here was that guy’s part of the painting, and maybe over here was that guy’s part of the painting. Then I started to think maybe we’re all in the painting everywhere. I mean, before we were born, and after we die, and these colors that we keep adding, maybe they just keep adding one on top of another until eventually we’re not even different colors anymore, we’re just one thing. One painting.” Maybe you think what you do doesn’t matter. Perhaps you think you are not making any difference in anyone’s life. Maybe you think the endless to-do list and mountainous piles of laundry don’t matter. But the Bible reminds us that “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Every color, every drawing (even the mistakes) shapes us into who we are, for better or for worse. When combined they create a beautiful tapestry that is our lives. Don’t allow the mistakes and failures stop you from creating a beautiful painting for God’s glory. Let your life reflect the beauty of that tapestry for all to see and admire.
